The Moving Saga...

We went to a few offices today and booked dates for our movers & our military housing final inspection, picked up our military plane tickets and discussed the non-military parts of our traveling. Wow. This is really happening!!

Our dates, so far:
1 March ~ Pre-inspection for military housing (basically, just telling us what needs to be done for final inspection)
1 March ~ Counseling session for packing/moving
20-21 March ~ Pack & load household items going to Japan (main shipment, going by boat)
24 March ~ Tom's re-enlistment
24 March ~ Pack & load baggage shipment (going by air, that will be there shortly after we arrive)
28-29 March ~ Pack & load long-term storage items, if any (hoping to get rid of all excess so we have NO storage)
30 March ~ Final military housing inspection
31 March ~ Final outprocessing from this base
3 April ~ Fly to Ohio to see Tom's family for ~10 days
12 or 13 April ~ Fly from Ohio to Florida to visit my family
23 April ~ Fly from Florida to Seattle
25 April ~ Fly from Seattle to Japan!

Yep. Typing that all out sure makes it seem real now!

Anyone wanna bet on whether or not we get it all sorted before the movers show up at the door?! :)

Another day down...

... and NOTHING accomplished! :)

Well, Tom & I did sit down and go over our dates for the moving stuff. We also talked about the stuff that we'd each like to take & the stuff we could care less about. Seems that we're on the same page with that stuff so that's a plus!

I'm really starting to love our plan! Getting rid of everything that we don't absolutely LOVE and just starting over! All the furniture (except his grandmother's antique dresser), all the miscellaneous junk & knick knacks, the dust-collectors, the excess clothing, the old things... and all the things from our first marriages. Starting fresh. A new life, a new place, a new home... together finally... after being together for almost 10 years!!! It's about time, huh?! :)

Best Mother-in-law EVER!

I hear all the horror stories about mothers-in-law (and I have to admit, my first mother-in-law was no picnic), but I cannot brag enough about mine! MaryBeth is amazing! She flew from Ohio to Texas with 5 days notice to help when I was having minor surgery last month... and ended up staying 2 weeks instead of just one week. Originally coming to help me, she spent more time helping a toddler with a broken foot! Noah & I fell on the stairs a few days before she got here... and he had a cast to contend with.

During her visit, we went shopping, where she refused to let me pay for anything, and hung out at home. I loved having her here. She is such a sweetheart and I wish we lived closer. It was so nice to just sit and chat with her, and to see her play with Noah!

And I can't deny that it was nice to have another adult in the house! I was finally able to shave both legs in one shower!!! :) That first night, I stayed in the shower so long I ran out all the hot water! She helped clean up, cook and do laundry too! She's a saint for putting up with my rambunctious toddler climbing on her & whacking her with any toy he could find... and she still bought him something every time we went shopping!

There are some "blended" families that have a difficult time... but not this one! She treats my boys from my first marriage as if they were blood-related to her. She is their grandmother, no matter how many grandmothers they have.

I feel so blessed to have Tom in my life... and I feel just as blessed to have his mother in my life. She has been a big help and comfort this past year while he was gone. I knew I could call her up anytime, day or night, if I needed to talk or if I needed advice or an opinion. She treated me like a daughter instead of a daughter-in-law.

The love and happiness Tom brings to me is sure reflected in the woman that raised him.

President's Day...

President's Day means a quiet day here at the military base. All offices were closed... which meant we got NOTHING accomplished today! :) Our full-speed-ahead moving preparation starts tomorrow instead of today...

So many things to do... and only 5 weeks to get it all done! EEK! The list of things to get done is growing instead of getting shorter. Not quite sure how that's happening, but, *sigh* that's the way it's going. I thought of 3 more things to add to the list today. I need to stop thinking about this stuff till we mark some of it off the list! (Think that will work?!)

Wonderful & awful all at the same time!

Well, maybe awful isn't quite the word... but it's driving me CRAZY! It's so great to have Tom home after 11 months... but... it's gonna take some time to get used to living together again! He's been living in a hotel all this time... and there ain't maid service here at my house!! :)

Noah has changed so much over the past year. It's gonna take time for Tom to get used to his new personality and his new likes & dislikes too. Noah is quite a handful... and has so much energy. Tom got used to it being quiet... HA! Not at home!!!

I cleaned all day yesterday... constant motion... and he played video games. I know he has been working so hard at this training & he totally deserves some time to relax, but c'mon! I did two loads of dishes, cleaned up after he made himself something to eat, cooked for everyone, did laundry, folded & put away too, took out the trash, vacuumed, sorted & picked up toys, and cleaned out the fridge. He played video games. And yelled bad things at the tv when he lost. ugh.

I pray for patience to get me through this time... so I don't hurt him before we get started on the sorting & packing! That's gonna take the patience of a saint... on a good day! :)

Let the countdown begin!!!

Well, we're only 6 weeks from leaving Texas! I am so excited about our move... but at the same time, I'm sad to leave the amazing friends that I have here. I will miss Angelique and Jamie so very much. I know we'll keep in touch by computer & phone, but still... it's sad. At least I'll be too busy over the next 6 weeks to think about it much.

There are so many things to get done in the short time left. Lots of appointments and sorting to do... we have the whole house & garage to sort. We can't take much so we've got to be picky when we start going through things.

I'm also VERY excited about my trip the first weekend in March. I can't wait to get on that plane headed to the east coast for a weekend with so many great women! It's amazing to me that these people are some of my closest friends although I've never met them in person. But... in less than 2 weeks, I'll meet them!!!! YAY!!!

Now... time to get this blog thing all organized & pretty. :)
